A distributed video coding method is introduced which can address both indirect and direct multiterminal video coding problems. The proposed coding scheme is based on multilevel Slepian-Wolf coding framework. Group of frames (GOF) which participates in the MTSC process is determined. Then blockwize DCT, with K frequency band, is applied on the frames of GOF. For each band, the corresponding coefficient sequences form multiple correlated signals. In each band, MTSC based on SWCQ framework is performed. Our proposed method uses more general and flexible framework of multiterminal source coding instead of Wyner–Ziv coding. Due to efficient quantization method and, more importantly, efficient high order distributed source coding schemes, the rate distortion performance of the proposed method is comparable and even better than using separate H.264 encoders in high rate conditions.
